Restaurants

Breakfast: Local hangout is Oscars located in the strip mall with City Market and Kreoger’s Hardware.  Great place for lunch too.  There are several coffee houses on Main Street.

Lunch: Favorite Mexican place is Gazpacho’s where the locals go located at 431 East 2nd Ave.; sort of hard to find; a block east and around the corner from the Train Station.  Carver’s, a local brewer, has a varied and tasty menu and is known for a great breakfast as well.  Steamworks is a fun mini brewery too.  We always go here on New Year’s and have their Cajun seafood special.  This special is available only a few times a week so call ahead if interested.  Chinese Lunch at the May Palace is reasonable and good.  Ken and Sue’s, one of our favorite lunch and dinner spots, is located on Main Street and has fresh salads, soups, sandwiches, lighter fare for lunch.  Ole Timer’s Café located downtown has a good lunch (sandwiches, burgers, salads) and nice outdoor seating in the back.

Dinner: Lots of favorites!  For steaks (also trout and seafood) we like the Ore House on College just up from Main.  Sort of dark, olde timey atmosphere.  Another Mexican place is Tequila’s.  I think they have the best margaritas in town.   If your up for Italian, we love Guido’s at 1201 Main Street.  Season’s is another great Main Street restaurant.  Little bit of everything on their menu.  One of the best meals we’ve had in Durango!  Most of the better restaurants are fairly expensive for dinner. Fire-up Pizza on Main Street is our choice for a pizza hangout. There are plenty of other choices too for pizza, Chinese, Subway and other national chains.  You can spend as much or as little as you want.

Give us your feedback or suggestions on local restaurants.  Actually you’d be surprised how little we eat  out.  With just a little pre-planning (crock pots, outdoor grill, etc.) staying in after a busy day is really appealing. Everyone seems to enjoy gathering at the Barn, chipping in to fix dinner, and just relaxing and talking about their adventures for the day.
